About the Blog

First off, let me give you tell you a little bit about myself:  I am an unpublished writer.  I've never taken a college level course in creative writing (but I sure did take lots of Theology classes!).  My batting average for MFA acceptance is .000.  I've never been a part of a writing group or taken writing courses (mostly because I could never afford them).  For years, I wrote in a vacuum, sharing my work with only my husband, a few close friends, and my dog.

So why keep writing?  Because I love it.   And I used to do it all the time.

And then my beautiful daughter Bee came along and the gush of writing turned to a trickle.  I started working from home and my time alone was suddenly monetized.  Writing came to a grinding halt.  Then my other beautiful daughter Bean came along and I realized that if I don't do it now, make writing a priority now then I'll just keep waiting for it to get easier and twenty years down the road I'll regret the novels I never wrote.

While necessity might be the mother of all invention, I think need is a creativity-killer.  When everyone needs something from you, your emotional and mental reservoirs get emptied to sustain other people and nothing, absolutely nothing is left to nourish your creative soul.  My desire is to find ways to make space for creativity in a chaotic life.  (An alternate tagline for this blog is:  Trying to Pee in Peace Since 2013.)

How do you make time to create when you're already exhausted, overworked, and too stressed?  Let's try to find ways to celebrate inspiration, even when it comes at the worst times.  Let's allow our creative pursuits to rejuvenate us.  Let's shape a safe place, a joyful place, a sacred and mundane space to play.

Join the party, will you?
