LOVES: Ideal Bookshelf

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.  -Groucho Marx

Just a tidbit for a Tuesday:

How amazing are these:
This one is near perfection to me.  Embarrassingly, I have not read Catcher in the Rye,
but the Doris Kearns Goodwin nods is so randomly wonderful
(this book is siting on myshelf, also to-read)
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess this person is a writer.
Knuffle Bunny?  YES!
Can't have enough VicLit.  Sigh.

Do yourself a favor and get lost in the lovely literary portraits that artist Jane Mount paints.   I found myself just falling in love with every single picture, wondering who could be the represented bibliophile.

Wasn't that the dream for every young girl whose first love happened to exist between the black and white typeface of the page? I'm still trying to recall my own (and invite him for a 'party'!).  Instead of picture brides and online match profiles, if we stared at the portraiture of the mind, would we have a better insight into our desired mates?

So the dream:  you're running to class (I was young, remember) and in your haste (and divine intervention) you bump into someone.  Apologies are dispersed without so much as a glance to the other party until you've collected your things and you see that in his hand he holds ______.  Him, the so-beyond-your-league/never-glanced-your-way/Harvard-bound-art-scholarship-quarterback (they existed in our minds).  You wait for him to scoff at your well-worn, tear stained copy of ____, but he just smiles and places it ever so gently in your hands.  You want to run away, deal with your shame in solitude, but just as you turn to leave, he says, "I know everybody loves Laurie, but I always preferred the professor myself."

Obviously, my book is Little Women, and back in the day, I was more in love with Laurie than The Professor, but I have since changed my views.

What was your book?  I guess that's the point of the portraits.  They are so very, very lovely.

One more:
The Box Car Children and Chuck Palaniuk??  Who are you?  And Jane Eyre!?  I love this!

What is your Ideal Bookshelf?  Food for thought.

Happy Tuesday, Party Goers.  Get reading!
